About Poems and Tales from Romania

"Poems and Tales from Romania" by Simona Sumanaru and Michael Hart is a collection of poetry and short stories that likely draws upon the rich folklore and cultural traditions of Romania. Written in the late 20th century, this book offers a glimpse into the soul of Romanian narratives, both in original Romanian and in English translation. The works encapsulate themes of human emotions, natural beauty, and the complexities of life, awakening curiosity in readers about Romanian heritage and literary artistry. The collection includes evocative poems and enchanting tales, the first being "Broken Flights," which poetically explores themes of loss and resilience through vivid imagery and emotion. Another compelling story, "The Story of Lake Dimbovitsa," narrates the enchanting life of a girl named Dimbovitsa who, through her passion for ice skating, transforms her community's perception of the art and brings joy to their winters. In an atmosphere where artistry and societal expectations clash, Dimbovitsa ultimately chooses to pursue her own path, leading to the creation of a beautiful lake named after her. The book stands as a homage to artistic expression and the longing for freedom, enriched by the backdrop of Romanian culture and nature.
