A translation memory is a database of source sentences paired with their approved translations. When a new text contains identical or similar sentences, the CAT tool offers the stored version as a 100% or 'fuzzy' match. Agencies often pay less for repeated and matched segments, so the TM directly affects a translator's income. TMs are exchanged in the TMX file format.
